It was because of my sister Vina - bata pa ako, seeing her on TV na sumasayaw at kumakanta. It made me want to see myself on TV as well," admits Shaina Magdayao who, at age 15, already bears the promise of heartbreaking prettiness, as evidenced by the countless billboards that have sprung all over the major thoroughfares of the city - Creamsilk, herBench, Lactacyd, just to name a few. And in many such cases, stardom can't be too far behind. After many years in show biz, the young lady has finally grown out of the shadows, both of childhood and of being just 'Vina Morales's younger sister.' Shaina Magdayao, born on November 6, 1989, started her showbiz career at age of 6. She landed her first big break with a lead role in the drama series, Lyra. "I was excited and overwhelmed, and since it was drama at palagi ako inaapi sa role ko, puro iyak ako…Iyakin talaga ako noon, so parang normal lang yun and it felt like I was just at play. It was fun!" "I'm very happy about all of my successes and ako naman, I'm not really asking for anything, siguro kung ano lang yung for me, then yun lang yung bibigay ng Lord and sobrang happy na ako dun," she says. Although evident challenges entail a show biz career, Shaina has a work ethic full of positive outlook and she instills a sense of enjoyment in all that she does. "Switching roles is kinda hard…From drama nilagay ako sa comedy, tapos ngayon drama na ulit. But as of now, I'm really excited with my new soap, Ikaw Ang Lahat Sa Akin. I'm gonna be working with Claudine and my best friend Bea Alonzo. I'm also really proud of my work with Tito Boyet de Leon in Wansapanatym, directed by Direk Johnny Manahan. Tapos yung pinaka-enjoy ko naman na movie ay yung Tanging Ina, kase puro bata kami doon, parang naglalaro lang kami." Growing up for the most part as 'Vina's kid sister' never really bothered her. "It was actually easier, because they would say 'Uy, kapatid ni Vina Morales.' They would recognize me! They would also ask me, 'Gusto mo ba na tinatawag ka na ganoon, hindi ka ba nagagalit kapag kilala ka na kapatid lang ni Vina at hindi si Shaina Magdayao?' But no, I'm proud pa nga!" Her ate was also directly instrumental to her career. She would always give Shaina advice like "Huwag lalaki ang ulo. Always listen to the director and be professional. Do your best in everything!' My sister is a great inspiration when it comes to my career, I worked with her kase…magaling siya sa comedy, magaling siya sa drama and she is a great singer and dancer too." Even more, Shaina is the youngest in a brood of four girls and thus, seems to be the most protected one. "My eldest sister Shiela is always there for me…she's like my mom, when our mom's not around and she's in charge of our salon, Ystilo. Vina naman is there for me about my career and about show biz. Sheryll, my third sister, is there for my studies, advises me pagdating sa friends and she's a pre-school teacher. They all tell me that when I'm on-cam I should do my best, and then when I go home, I'm back to being their normal baby sister Shaina - no arte." She has yet to be romantically involved, but when the time comes, she wants to be with someone tall, mestizo and handsome, at the same time, someone who is also close to his family, a gentleman, mabait, and someone who would court not only her, but court her family as well, an old-fashioned Romeo. Shaina still enjoys the 'normal' teenage life. She likes hanging-out with her non-showbiz friends, chills at their houses, and she's one that's not really into night-outs - she would only go out at night with her sisters. She says her hobbies are watching TV, texting, and talking to her best friend, fellow actress Bea Alonzo. Unlike many artistas of her age, there's no home study for this teener. She used to attend Montessori, but transferred to Angelicum last November 2004. "At Angelicum, they have special treatment and they understand if you're from show biz, so walang problema. At Montessori I kinda had a hard time…I'd miss the lessons coz I'm always absent. I don't go to school 5 days a week, I'd go siguro three times a week lang, so nahirapan ako mag catch-up. I wanna finish high school and I'm excited to take up Psychology." She says that her image now is still wholesome, but she's done with the pa-tweetums roles, where she got stuck with for quite a while. She's now set on doing mature roles in the near future. Whatever the word 'mature' means, there's an entire nation of guys who just can't seem to wait.
